The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is a standards and certification organisation for the jewellery supply chain. The RJC Code of Practices (COP) sets out responsible business practice requirements for RJC members across the diamond, gold, platinum group metals, silver, and coloured gemstone supply chains.
RJC Code of Practices Requirements
The RJC COP covers: business ethics (anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, conflict diamonds); human rights (child labour, forced labour, discrimination); labour rights (wages, working hours, health and safety); environmental management (waste, water, emissions); and product disclosure (diamond origin, treatment disclosure). All RJC members must be certified against the COP.
Certification Process
RJC certification is conducted by RJC-approved third-party auditors. Certification is valid for 3 years. Members must undergo a full audit at certification and surveillance audits in years 1 and 2. RJC certification is increasingly required by major jewellery retailers as a condition of supply.
