The Kimberley Process certificate is a government-issued document that must accompany all rough diamond shipments between KPCS member countries. The certificate certifies that the diamonds are conflict-free and have been traded in compliance with KPCS requirements.
Certificate Format Requirements
KPCS certificates must: be printed on tamper-resistant paper; contain a unique serial number; identify the country of origin; state the carat weight and value of the diamonds; include the name and address of the exporter and importer; bear the official seal of the issuing government authority; and be validated by the exporting country's government authority.
Tamper-Resistant Packaging
Rough diamonds must be shipped in tamper-resistant containers. The KPCS certificate must be affixed to the outside of the container. The container must be sealed in a manner that makes tampering evident. Common tamper-resistant packaging methods include: heat-sealed plastic bags; security tape; and numbered security seals.
